Subaru Hill Holder
About Subaru Hill Holder:
One safety feature that Subaru has included in most of it's newer model year vehicles, as well as in certain models in the past, is a feature called Hill Holder.
Have you ever been stopped on a hill and someone pulls up behind you and it feels like they are a foot from your bumper? In almost any vehicle, automatic or manual, depending on the slope, you are almost sure to roll back a foot or two when you take your foot off the brake to transfer it to the gas pedal.
Hill holder allows your Subaru to be stopped on a hill without any significant roll back. While hill holder is on, it recognizes the front end of your vehicle is significantly higher than the back end and prevents the subsequent roll. You can also take your foot off the brake entirely while on a steep hill and the vehicle will not move.

Which vehicles is it available on?
If you're interested in a particular vehicle, to get the best answer you should just call the dealership and ask, as it may vary each model year. The feature is available on newer Forester's, Outback's, and Legacy's. Other vehicles have similar features, such as Incline Assist on the Impreza.
Do I have it?
The best way to check if you have it is to simply look inside the vehicle. While sitting in the driver seat of the vehicle, you'll notice a cluster of buttons on the left hand side, right where your headlight and traction control buttons are. You'll notice a button amongst the others like the logo at the top of this page. It's a car parked on a slope. If you press this button in, you'll notice the same icon light up in your gauge cluster. This means your hill holder is engaged and feel free to test it on a steeper slope.
Note: The car has to realize you are on a slope, it may not prevent roll back on smaller hills. Always keep your foot close to the brake pedal just in case.
