Warm temperatures bring business boom

Tuesday was the first day of spring but it's felt like June all week long. It's an emphatic reminder that this winter was anything but typical for New England. Businesses have felt its impact, in good ways and bad.

Businesses are booming due to the current weather conditions. Joel Jenkins, head golf professional at Exeter Country Club, said they opened two weeks early this year.

Red Cross honors the work of local heroes

PORTSMOUTH - Locals who have saved lives and completed great feats of generosity and selflessness were among the heroes honored Thursday at the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast 2012.

Held at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel, the annual event recognized those from all walks of life who epitomize the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross. Gov. John Lynch was on hand to congratulate the heroes and received an award for his disaster-management acumen as governor.

Princess

This beautiful girl is Princess. She is a domestic medium-haired, spayed female who is 10 years old, microchipped and up to date on all of her shots.

Princess has lived with other cats but the staff members at the shelter are not sure how she would do with dogs or children. She was surrendered to the N.H. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals facility because her previous owner was having medical issues.

Subaru of America has unveiled its new EyeSight driver assistance system, which will be debuted at the New York International Auto Show on 2013 Legacy and Outback models.

EyeSight which integrates adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and vehicle lane departure warning, will appear on other products in the Subaru line-up.

The new technology, which is capable of detecting obstacles in front of a parked car and limit potential damage in an impact, will become available later this year.

STRATHAM - Those looking to aid a 9-year-old boy's campaign to end the inhumane treatment of horses can do so by attending a letter-writing party at the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Sunday afternoon.

After having been exposed to the methods used throughout the United States to slaughter horses, Declan Gregg has focused his energy on voicing his concern in order to make a difference.

STRATHAM, N.H. - Author Stephen King is taking time from writing to do some reviewing.

The Maine author visited New Hampshire on Saturday to interview New Jersey author Lauren Grodstein at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham.

The Portsmouth Herald said the event, hosted by Water Street Bookstore, was one of four put on every year across the country by Algonquin Books, during which well-known authors are invited to interview lesser-known authors.
