A parade for Victoria Arlen will be held in downtown Exeter at 10 a.m. Saturday. Arlen, a swimmer who attends Exeter High School, recently won a gold medal in the 2012 London Paralympics. Here are five things you need to know about the parade:

What is ... a Winner? Exeter Man Wins Jeopardy!

An Exeter man won the popular game show Jeopardy!

Brendan DuBois, a novelist and former newspaper reporter, won the game back in July, according to Foster's Daily Democrat. His episode aired early this morning.

"It was a very surreal experience," DuBois told Foster's.

Foster's reported DuBois was leading going into the final round. Many of the questions focused on history and literature - topics that are in DuBois' wheelhouse.

His episode will air again Monday at 7:30 p.m. on WBZ-TV, according to Foster's.

NH officer honored for rescue efforts in shootout

STRATHAM, N.H.-A New Hampshire police officer has been honored for rescuing two officers caught in the line of fire at a shootout that killed the Greenland police chief.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (http://bit.ly/NgAXzO) Police Officer Charles Law of Stratham was given the department's Medal of Valor on Monday.

During the April 12 shooting, Law drove his vehicle toward two wounded officers, pulled them into the cruiser as shots were fired and brought them to an ambulance.

Fund Set Up to Repair Damaged Memorial

 


A fund has been set up to pay for the repair of Daniel Healy's memorial after it was vandalized this week.

Police are still looking for the person of persons who smashed a porcelian photo of Healy, who died in 2005 when his helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan during a mission to rescue fellow soldiers under fire. He was 36 years old.

His mother, Natalie, was devastated when she learned that a porcelian photo of her son had been smashed up.

Motorcyclist Tries to Hit-and-Run, But Is Chased Down by Victim

Generally, hit-and-run incidents involve filing a detailed description of the offending vehicle in a report to the authorities and hoping the will be caught. In this case, though, a motorcyclist picked the wrong person to clip and then try to speed away from. They were not only chased down, but the whole incident was also caught on a camera mounted on the bumper.

Paralyzed Exeter Teen Sets Swimming Records

She will compete in London, England this year.

An Exeter teen dealing with a rare spinal cord condition that nearly took her life is making waves after setting a pair of U.S. Paralympic swimming records, according to WMUR-TV.

Victoria Arlen broke records in the 100- and 400-meter events. She will compete for Team USA this summer in the Paralympic Games in London, England.

"I'm just happy to go there," Arlen told WMUR.

Arlen, 17, currently attends Exeter High School. She has been dealing with her spinal condition since she was 11.
