V8 BRZ

We love the Subaru BRZ. Who doesn't? We also love that it isn't overpowered and it's incredibly well balanced. But what if you want MOAR POWWWEERRRR? Stuff a V8 in there brah!

This BRZ from Weapon's Grade Performance has an LS2 V8 (According to our resident photo sleuth Raphael Orlove) straight out of the sadly unloved Pontiac GTO.

That probably transforms the BRZ from a cornering beast with a zen like?

40 Years Of Not Getting Stuck: A Subaru AWD History

Click here for a link to the slide show.

By Mate Petrany

Subaru's now famous Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is 40 years old. Contrary to what you might expect, the first couple of Subarus using it were not turbocharged racecars fighting against the mud and snow but rather affordable coupes and family cars in need of some extra grip. The Japanese company has been commited to the idea since introducing the first (optionally) AWD Leone estate in 1972.

Here's a look at some of the highlights from more than four decades of putting power down through all four tires…

How Good Is A Subaru STI At Being A Plane?

by Raphael Orlove

Today we learned that United's 787 Dreamliner isn't exactly revolutionary, but it's quiet and fuel efficient. Could it really be as good on gas as, say, a Subaru STI? One of our readers decided to find out.

Reader schwartzi first wondered what kind of MPG the Dreamliner gets.

So let's do some math

9,000lb. of fuel per hour

Jet Fuel is ~6.8lb. per gallon

So that's ~1324 gallons per hour

Traveling at 550mph

That is 0.415 miles per gallon or 2.41 gallons per mile.
Vs old jets being…

Mosquito threat still in NH

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - It's getting cooler, but the mosquitoes are still out in New Hampshire - and officials say there's still a threat of Eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile virus.

Beth Daly, chief of infectious disease surveillance with the state Department of Health and Human Services, said a batch of mosquitoes from Stratham that tested positive for West Nile virus on Tuesday is a strong indication people must protect themselves.

She told the Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/RSvvX5) the recent, chilly weather can be misleading.

"There are still mosquitoes out there," Daly said. "I think the populations…

What's the Chance of a Big Earthquake in New England?

by Terry Date

New Englanders from Maine to Massachusetts and perhaps as far away as Rhode Island felt the 4.6 magnitude earthquake centered in Lake Arrowhead, Maine early Tuesday night.

It was the largest earthquake in New England since 1982 when a 4.7 quake  centered in Laconia, New Hampshire shook homes and rattled shelves.

Dr. John Ebel, a geophysics professor at Boston College and director of the Weston Observatory at Boston College, said…

Subaru Continues to Break Away From The Pack

RESEARCH MORE CARS
Subaru is the car company Saab always wanted to be: a niche automaker with a loyal, growing following. It relies on horizontally opposed four- and six-cylinder engines and all-wheel drive, save for the new rear-drive BRZ sports car. Its deal with Toyota, which bought 8.7 percent of parent Fuji Heavy Industries after GM dumped its 20 percent, goes a long way toward Subaru's sustained success in the U.S. and globally. Even before the BRZ was launched, Subaru was making a…
