Are 'Stink Bugs' Invading Exeter?

by Carolyn Dube

People around town have been referring to them as stink bugs, and it seems as though this fall they are everywhere around town.

The good news is, these little brown invaders are not harmful, though they may be a nuisance.

They aren't actually stink bugs, though they stink if you crush them, said Jon Nute, and extension field specialist in the natural resources department at the UNH Cooperative Extension's Hillsborough County branch. They are Western Conifer Seed Bugs, Nute said, and thankfully the recent invasion is as harmless as a lady bug infestation.

NH town holds 4th annual UFO Festival

EXETER, N.H.-People are gathering in Exeter, N.H., in remembrance of reported UFO sightings there in 1965 and to celebrate all things extraterrestrial.

Saturday's festival is in its fourth year. It's in recognition of a sighting in which then-teenager Norman Muscarello reported seeing a spacecraft on Route 150 on Sept. 3, 1965. Similar sightings had been called in from Hampton Beach and Raymond. It became the subject of a book, "Incident at Exeter."

The festival is featuring lectures on UFOs, a UFO construction contest and a costume contests for children and pets.

EXETER, N.H.-Friends and strangers have sent donations to help repair a vandalized New Hampshire monument honoring a fallen U.S. Navy SEAL.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Dan Healy of Exeter would have turned 44 on Tuesday. He died in 2005, when his helicopter was shot down during a rescue mission in Afghanistan.

A porcelain picture of Healy on the memorial in Exeter Park has been smashed to pieces twice.

His mother, Natalie Healy, tells WMUR-TV (http://bit.ly/NBQGdx) when the family posted news of the vandalism on Facebook, it sparked a wave of generosity from the across…

Bonnie and Clyde’s guns to be auctioned

AP FILE PHOTO The handguns of Bonnie Parker, left, and Clyde Barrow could fetch between $100,000 and $200,000 at auction.
Bridget Murphy
The Associated Press

She kept a Colt .38-calibre revolver close, while he preferred a .45-calibre pistol from the same maker.

But neither weapon was enough to save American outlaws and lovers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow during a 1934 ambush by law enforcement officers.

After the duo was dead, authorities recovered the revolver Bonnie had secured to an inner thigh with white medical tape.

They also seized the handgun Clyde had tucked into his waistband.

NH chocolate factory workers set candy record

STRATHAM, N.H.-Victory is sweet: Nearly 600 New Hampshire chocolate factory workers have set a new Guinness World Record for the most simultaneously unwrapped and consumed candies.

The Lindt Chocolate workers gathered on Thursday at the Stratham plant. Everyone was handed a signature red-wrapped Lindt milk chocolate truffle. After a countdown, they untwisted the foiled candies and popped them into their mouths.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/MlEou8) adjudicator Freddie Hoff from the Guinness World Records counted the participants. He handed Thomas Linemayr, president and CEO of Lindt USA, a framed certificate signifying the newly set…
