2 Millionth Subaru rolls off Lafayette Line

Associates at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. cheered this afternoon when the 2 millionth Subaru built at the Lafayette plant rolled off the assembly line.

Sitting in a staging area alongside Job 1 - a 1990 Legacy built on Sept. 11, 1989 - the ruby red Outback was doused with sparkling mineral water by SIA officials.

"Over the course of these past 22 years, a total of nearly 3,430,000 vehicles were assembled at SIA, including 2 million Subarus," said Motokiyo Nomura, SIA's president and chief executive officer.

Kenyan cycling team Safari Simbas successfully defended their title; winning the sixth edition of the Subaru Kalahari Challenge yesterday.
